House at Tombricane, Borrisokane, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.Client: Confidential Location: Tombricane, Borisokane, Nenagh, Role: Design and Project Architects Project Type: Private Residence to achieve high levels of energy efficiency Construction Value: Confidential Description: Under Construction The house sits back on the site to allow for maximum planting and screening between it and the road. A curving driveway takes you along the side of the site, by a mature hedgerow and stone wall, and then around he house into an entrance courtyard to the side / rear of the house. This leads to the main door which is located within this space. From the main entrance this route then takes you between the two main blocks of the house and delivers you into a south facing winter garden that opens out onto a partially enclosed external courtyard with views to the fields beyond. This journey accentuates the experience of leaving the outside world behind and entering the house as a place of refuge and tranquillity. The house has been designed with all rooms facing either south or southwest, to maximise solar gain. Buffer spaces such as toilets, utilities areas, etc. have north facing areas and help to minimise heat loss. The highly insulated building fabric includes 150mm cavities fully filled with bonded platinum bead, a heavily insulated, airtight warm roof with breathable membrane and high quality aluclad timber windows. The south facing winter garden is accessed by a number of living and bedroom areas and will provide preheated fresh air to the house. Natural slate roofs, flush eaves, through colour white render, graphite grey windows and selected areas of stonework will combine to create a low maintenance, air-tight external finish which gives a very traditional yet timeless appearance. |
